Today we are teaming up with our local neighbours, Mustard Tree, to help them get their important message out there and encourage donations to their incredible charity as part of Second Hand September.
We’re excited to see how the OMBLES encourage donations of the following products for this great cause:

NOTE: It’s also important to clarify that we don’t show negative poverty imagery… i.e. black and white images of people sleeping rough etc.

We don’t want this campaign to be all doom and gloom. We want to focus on the positive impacts that these donations can bring to peoples’ lives!

“Hi, I’ve recently come out of homelessness with my children due to domestic violence and I am now living in temporary accommodation. I have just about managed to get a cooker, fridge and beds for my children but I’ve not had a bed for myself since I moved in 6 months ago. I’m currently sleeping on the floor and I was wondering if there was any help available””
It’s a scenario you wouldn’t think exists in 2023, and yet, the above is just one of the many requests our support team receive on a weekly basis. Relaxing on the sofa when you get home from work, blasting yesterday’s leftovers in the microwave, washing your bedsheets every week. The routines we take for granted are out of range for many in Greater Manchester — due to living in furniture poverty.
Typically hidden, the concept of furniture poverty evades many — it is simply inconceivable in an age of surplus and ‘fast furniture’, hundreds of thousands of children across the UK go to sleep on the floor. The above video by BBC Morning Live illustrates this, with a feature of Mustard Tree on how we are helping to tackle the issue.
