One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to celebrate the launch of the ‘Champions League’ of eCommerce sites with @WebVitalsIndex #EcommerceChampions

We love an exclusive at OMB, and we’re delighted to be helping with the launch of the Web Vitals Index today – a new list which ranks the highest-performing eCommerce websites in the UK.

Think of it like the Champions League. where the best of the best rise to the top and show their skills and hard work to their fans (aka customers). These brands need to be at the top of their game in every area to move up the league and stay there. Otherwise they risk being relegated.

The Holy Grail of eCommerce shines a light on the brands which are working the hardest – irrespective of size – to improve overall website performance, brand loyalty and user experiences for every online customer.

And, we need the OMBLES’ help to shout/chant about it!

What’s the brief?

To mark the inaugural listing of unsung eCommerce heroes, which will be updated weekly – Official UK Top 40-style – we’re looking for visuals (be it posters, gifs, or scribbles on paper) designed to celebrate the fact that this leader board exists.

GuitarGuitar, Gabor, and Superga currently occupy the top three positions, while household brands including Co-Operative, Wish, and Thomas Sabo, all currently feature in the top ten – above Apple and Samsung in 11th and 15th respectively – but rankings will change weekly based on performance.

The winning design will take some insight from the current listings, and act as a call to arms to the eCommerce industry to simply do better.

Who’s setting today’s brief?

Web Vitals Index is powered by next-generation website testing specialist RapidSpike – a fast-growing Leeds-headquartered firm that counts Tesco, Sofology, Kurt Geiger, and William Hill among its customer base.

Once scored, brands can benchmark themselves against competitors and take proactive steps to improve – with a little help from RapidSpike, of course.

The technical bit

The Web Vitals Index triangulates a range of metrics including Google’s Core Web Vitals three-pronged user experience benchmark*, as well as website performance over time, accessibility, page structure and reliability.

What’s worrying, is that performance engineering and website monitoring are often considered reactive tick-box exercises, rather than being the proactive source of empowering, business-changing information that it should be – especially in the era of the ever-more discerning customer.

With the direct correlation between website speed and conversion now widely acknowledged – with every second saved over three seconds said to boost conversions by 7% - even marginal gains of 0.1% could represent millions of extra revenue for the UK’s largest brands.

What’s more, stock market analyst Nasdaq previously predicted that 95% of all purchases will be online by 2040, but Web Vitals Index believe this forecast has accelerated by at least a decade in the wake of the pandemic.

It’s therefore time to join the dots, and acknowledge the part that website performance plays too.

We can’t wait to see how the OMBLES bring this to life!
