One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to promote @IAmChrisBarber... a fun, wedding photographer who is one of the #ForgottenLTD affected by a lack of government support.

Today is the 100th day of lockdown.

For 2 million+ #ForgottenLTD businesses, including One Minute Briefs LTD, that's 100 days of little or no work, no income support and no grants from the government

So today, we are dedicating one of our One Minute Briefs social campaigns to one of those ForgottenLtd businesses affected in order to give them some help with their promotion & create lots of great quick-fire content and reach during this difficult time.

Together, I hope we can really help the chosen business with a much-needed morale boost in typical creative style, at the same time as sending a message to the Chancellor to ask him, once again, to not forget about them, OMB and millions of others.

We NEED the OMBLES to help make our voices heard!!!

Please tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs @IamChrisBarber and @ForgottenLTD with the hashtag #ForgottenLTD

You can also mention @commonstreasury and @RishiSunak in your tweets in order to make sure the message gets to them.

Chris-Barber-Photography-2015.jpg

Today’s chosen LTD business is Chris Barker Photography. I chose this as the business really stood out with it’s distinctive style, and with weddings being one of the things not happening during the crisis, Chris has been badly affected by the lack of government support and has very limited options of work in the near future. It would be great if the OMBLES could help get his name out there and create loads of fun content that matches his unique outlook on what he does. And, when the time is right, hopefully it will help business get back to normality.

About Chris Barker Photography:

Style + Approach For Relaxed Wedding Photography.

I photograph “love” a lot (like… a lot) so my definition of it is important because it inevitably contributes to creating relaxed wedding photography.

I’m not gonna pretend my work is for everyone. It really isn’t because every relationship is completely unique. But the people I work with + I share the same ethos. To us… “love” is laughing till you snort at yourselves. It’s vedging out on the sofa together on a Friday night, binging on Netflix + not wanting to be anywhere else in the world. Humans are designed to communicate, socialise + engage with other humans so it’s inevitable we feel a connection to portraits of people where we can sense a genuine energy or element of their characteristics. I create images that my couples, families + friends connect with – beyond simply creating a visually ‘pretty’ photograph.

To me, choosing to spend your life with another human being isn’t a unicorn, crapping heart shaped confetti glitter, over a perfect double rainbow (although it would be kinda awesome). Instead, I choose to focus on a raw, genuine + less posey side of relationships. I mean… you *might* pose romantically together all the time (you lie) but I rather understand your little ‘in’ jokes + get to know you guys on a real level than just brute force a bunch of cliche poses for the sake of convenience + tradition. My work avoids anything stylized, glazed over, or artificially sweetened. It’s not driven by themes, it doesn’t try to be ”vintage”, quirky or feature the latest fad. It is what it is. You being you.

You can’t pose laughter.

I only work with a limited number of couples every year so I can focus on a small group of people in a way that allows me to take the time to get to know you guys better + create genuine portraits, full of life, character + authentic expression.

Find out more about Chris here and check out the full website at chrisbarberphotography.co.uk

Wedding photography is inevitably seasonal work with most weddings taking place between May + September. The pandemic has left couples with no choice but to postpone their weddings to next year. Within a few weeks, I went from planning to photograph around 30 weddings to zero, along with any expected income. These weddings have now filled my calendar for 2021, which now makes it very difficult to take any new bookings for next year. As a limited company, I’ve only been offered loans (no grants, no SEISS etc) to sustain my business, thus making the possibility of a ‘bounce back’ highly unlikely. The impact of the government’s decision to not fairly support all businesses will have a long term impact on this seasonal industry. We’ve had our pleas for any kind of support repeatedly shrugged off + we’re left to sacrifice our own businesses, our own ambitions + dreams to fulfil our couples plans for the best day of their lives.
— Chris Barker

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to get smokers to think twice and not drop their cigarettes. It’s time to #BinYourButts

Today we’ve got a fun campaign with an important message in collaboration with our friends at Hubbub. There’s a great cash prize to be won and we’re looking forward to seeing all the fun ideas in response to today’s exciting brief!!

Hubbub_Master_Logo-01-03.png

Brief:

Create posters to get smokers to think twice and not drop their cigarettes. It’s time to #BinYourButts

Tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs and @hubbubUK with the hashtag #BinYourButt

Prize: £100 cash prize for today’s winner!

Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world! 3.9 million cigarette butts are dropped daily in the UK and, because the filters contain plastic, they can persist for up to 15 years.

Environmental charity Hubbub have come up with their own solution, which you can read more about below, and now they want to creatively engage people who wouldn't normally think twice about cigarette litter or its environmental impacts, to bin their butts. We want to see all sorts of different ideas…

And, that’s where the OMBLES come in! We’d like to see all of your quick-fire concepts, designs, posters, sketches and more to encourage the public to #BinYourButt !!!

About Hubbub & their solution:

Hi from Hubbub! We design campaigns that inspire ways of living that are good for the environment. Our campaigns tackle environmental issues, from food waste to microfibres and (almost) everything in between. But it all started with a bin.

Back in 2016, we were challenged to come up with ways to reduce litter on Villiers Street, London. After spending hours observing the street and talking to people in the area, we discovered the biggest form of littering was cigarette butts and the main cause was young men who were smoking outside of pubs and dropping the cigarette butts on the ground or into the drains.

This lead to the creation of the Ballot Bin, a cigarette voting ashtray which nudges people to bin their butts and reduces cigarette litter by 46%.

Now, as restrictions of lockdown ease and more people gather in parks and beer gardens, we want to raise awareness of this worldwide issue, engaging people who wouldn’t normally think twice about dropping their cigarette butt on the floor or down the drain to care about the environmental impact.

So now you’ve seen our solution… what would yours be?

Over to you OMBLES!!!

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to support the INvirolution Festival with @envirolution #myfutureplanet

Today sees a chance to find interesting ways to promote a Manchester-based community and sustainability-focused festival, as it uses this crisis era to seize a digital opportunity.

The world’s problems and needs have not disappeared despite an additional crisis, and this is the moment to keep the environmental movement in the public eye through a series of positive and uplifting campaigns.

We’re excited to see how the OMBLES take this one on.

Remember to tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs and @Envirolution with the hashtags #myfutureplanet and #INvirolution facebook.com/events/675201886266325

The winning ideas will be featured in a gallery during the Festival and shared via the interactions on social interaction happening throughout the day!

image1.png

INvirolution Festival 2020 will be hosting a festival-sized lineup of great music, workshops and inspirational talks from leading activists and climate heroes, including Rob Greenfield and Lindsey Chapman. Fellow sustainable-movement leaders Green Gathering festival and Extinction Rebellion will be hosting their own stages for the digital INvirolution.

To help spread the reach of the event, which is set to include participants from every continent (except Antarctica… yet!), the festival is encouraging the use of the hashtag #myfutureplanet which gets people to talk about how they want the world to look like after this crisis is over.

The OMBLES are being asked to share fun positive ideas in the form of notes, designs, sketches, posters and more to help spread the word and, who knows, maybe even get #myfutureplanet trending ahead of the festival on Saturday 20 June!!

These festival organisers are not paid - everything is voluntary, and we all rely on occasional funding rounds to make things viable. The creativity of the OMBLES is well-known, and we are calling on everyone to get stuck in and make #myfutureplanet a world conversation for the next week.

The brief does not require you to make people visit the festival to be a winner, but it is certainly welcome!!

We hope to see you all joining us on http://www.invirolution.org/ on Saturday ❤️

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to show how #WeAreOne as a community, industry and human race in support of #BlackLivesMatter

Today’s brief is a very important one for us all, as a community, to get behind.

Having seen the events unfold over the past couple of weeks, I feel it is important to have our say and share our unequivocal support behind the Black Lives Matter movement.

Recently, we've been watching society coming to terms with itself. We've seen hate on the news, love too. We've seen the best and worst of humanity through togetherness and, unfortunately, division following the protests during an ongoing pandemic. It's been overwhelming to see and has taken a toll mentally on all of us.

Therefore, I didn’t want us to jump in with a gesture One Minute Brief that added to all of the noise and becoming a place of negativity and hostility. I wanted to speak to, and involve, the OMBLES ahead of a campaign that supports our BAME followers and celebrates our ethos of complete inclusivity.

Whatever race, gender or age you are. You are welcome here.

No hierarchy. No bias.

omblogo_WEAREONE-01.png

We’ve made giant strides in the last few years against racism and, rather than create a divide, I believe we should continue to work together so that no-one is ever judged differently for the colour of their skin. Or anything else for that matter.

And, that starts with equal opportunities for all.

This is something that I think the industry, as a whole, does struggle with and we are trying to do our small part to encourage anyone, anywhere to get involved each day from around the world. There are no barriers to entry.

Entrants to our daily briefs include people from all around the world, from all walks of life. Some of them don’t even work in the creative industry as we’ve had prize-winners from school-children, to school teachers… creative students to Creative Directors.

Because ANYONE can come up with a good idea. They just need the support to make them happen.

Ahead of today’s brief, I have consulted our OMBoard & spoken to BAME members Ze and Danielle about their own experiences and feelings about this.

One of our prolific winners is Ze Anwar, who has been a huge ambassador for the BLM movement…

Ze has seen his opportunities in the creative industry limited in the past as he has been often overlooked for jobs. This is despite being relentless in his idea creation via OMB every day for a number of years. He is a figure that a lot of people look up to in our community. He inspires, mentors and is always positive and supportive to others. He is responsible for the idea that sparked both the hugely viral film for Isabella, as well as the WWF idea that saw global brands and Premier League teams pledging their support.

I have had a bad experience of trying to get a foot and acceptance into the creative advertising industry. I was so heart broken with my experience of looking for work in a white dominated field, that I decided to forget my dream and I got a job within the NHS, which was more accepting of me as a black person, as it is a true definition of a multicultural employer.

One day flicking through twitter, I came across One Minute Briefs, which was running a brief for the NHS. I was instantly hooked and restarted creating again.

The One Minute Briefs community gave me so much support, and made me feel accepted in the creative industry. I have never come across such a welcoming community in advertising, with no barriers, and my colour and experience was seen as a strength.

With this support, I have won numerous awards and found my trust in humanity. When I was down, there was always a OMBLE to pick me up, and now I go forward with strength and some really good friends.
— Ze Anwar

Danielle has been a vital member of the OMBoard and gave an emotional and empowering speech at our last OMBLive event. Her ideas are exceptional…not just creatively but also in how we can better the community as a whole.

We’ve all watched the news. And it’s safe to say that the tragic events that have unfolded across America the past few weeks have been a wake up call to the rest of the world.

Systemic racism exists and has done for a number of years. And there is still a fundamental change that needs to happen in our society.

It’s important to acknowledge that the creative industry plays a big part of our society.

This industry includes advertising and marketing, crafts, architecture, product, gaming, graphic and fashion design, film, TV, video, radio & photography, music, performing and visual arts, museums, galleries and libraries (hopefully I’ve covered them all!) but the lack of diversity and representation amongst these sectors is very apparent. (Google the stats if you want the numbers.)

Diversity is a matter of social justice.

Therefore the creative industry has a social responsibility to do a better job at diversifying its workforces.

The industry does not currently represent enough of its consumers, the communities it serves, the people that enjoy the goods it makes or the entertainment it offers.

Equalities and diversity are integral to all of our work. It will only enrich everything we do.

Collectively there needs to be a commitment from us as a community, to put Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at the heart of everything we do. And showcasing that everyone has creativity within them no matter who they are.

The mission for now and the future should be to support individuals and organisations within our community that represent all these values. Fully transparent, fully inclusive and striving to make a positive change wherever we can. We are all a part of this industry, we all have a circle of influence, so we call all actively be a part of the change, if we work together.
This of course needs to be done well and for the right reasons, not just because the world is watching. After all. It’s what we do when no-one is watching that we show our true selves.

I have some ideas on how we could take this further, some of which I’ve already shared with Nick. But I feel that needs further discussion for another time and I’m happy if anyone wants to collaborate or discuss any ideas they have also.

Finally, you don’t need to be a particular race, age, gender or religion to be an OMBLE. Absolutely everyone is welcome. All you need, is one minute.
— Danielle Clarke

That’s why, I’m running today’s OMB alongside Ze and Danielle in order to celebrate inclusivity, diversity and total equality for everyone in the creative world, and beyond.

But we can’t do that without the OMBLES...

  • We are creative.

  • We are supportive.

  • We are inclusive.

  • We are equal.

  • We are One Minute Briefs.

  • We are One.

So let’s show everyone that we are united against racism as a community in the way we know best.

Share your positive posters, scribbles, sketches, notes, designs, GIFs and more to show how we want our creative industry to be fully inclusive, diverse and equal.

Tweet your posters to @OneMinuteBriefs, @D4nielleCl4rke & @ZedTrafficker with the hashtags #WeAreOne & #BlackLivesMatter

We spoke to a number of our other OMBoard and followers to get their thoughts to help put together today’s brief. See their quotes below.

If you’d like to add your own, please e-mail it to us at interest@bankofcreativity.co.uk

If skin colour doesn’t define creativity, it shouldn’t limit it. I have experienced difficulty from getting international jobs because of my skin colour. OMB helped me get my work out, as well as other creatives like myself who also find it difficult to branch out.
— Affia Nsikak
One Minute Briefs is a community where those behind the avatars get recognised for their style and the way they approach the brief each day. The idea is what makes someone stand out. For example, most of the time you can look at an advert and instantly know who has created it. Zed is one of those people. He stands out because of his incredible, award-winning ideas. Why should it be any different in the ‘real world’?
— Julia Godridge
A great idea doesn’t discriminate here.
No idea is born into racism. At OMB inclusivity is our creativity.
Unity in community. Where creativity is celebrated, ideas are encouraged, you are appreciated, whoever you are. It’s as simple as that. There’s no fear, no pressure, no prejudice, just fun every day. A unique spirit of togetherness, like no other.
— Nirpal Bansel
Names and profile pics give a clue to the person (and are helpful when meeting up IRL!) but race, age, gender, or class doesn’t come into it for me. I only see outstanding work, mutual support, and emotional warmth from everyone in the community.
— Gary Lewis
At the core of the creative industry (of which OMB is born) are bright, original ideas. And the beauty of bright ideas is that they can come from absolutely anyone. Everyone should get the opportunity and encouragement to share those ideas with the world. We can’t claim originality of anything – of ideas, of thinking, of expression – if we’re only hearing the same voices, seeing the same faces, reflecting the same cultures, and sharing the same experiences. We’ll only break out of that echo chamber by actively addressing that lack of diversity. OMB does a great job of this by giving everyone with an idea an equal platform on which to share it. And the wider industry needs to do the same.
— Fran Payne
Sometimes you don’t know who’s behind the handle or the avatar. Sometimes you do. But, like the early rounds of “The Voice”, talent speaks for itself. You don’t have to see a singer to know they’ve got a good voice. Likewise, you don’t need to know who’s created a piece of work to know that it’s good. OMB let’s the work, the idea, the creativity, do the talking. It’s as simple and egalitarian as that.
— Gareth Alvarez
When I started to get involved with One Minute Briefs, I did so because I saw an opportunity to improve and learn. I never expected to make friends and I never expected that I would become part of a community that has become so close and supportive that it almost feels like an oxymoron to say that it actually exists on social media, an often volatile and combative platform.

What I’ve come to realise is that aside from the opportunities to exercise your brain, OMB offers an online haven for creative people. There is no judgement and no pretensions as anyone can enter and anyone can have a good idea. This goes some way to eliminating the fear of rejection that often comes with sharing ideas. The people who do come up with consistently brilliant ideas don’t rub this in the faces of others or metaphorically swagger around the internet, they offer advice, encouragement and mentor those who are new to the community. We share in our successes and failures equally, and there is the crux. Equal. At no point does gender, age, sexuality or ethnicity enter the equation. People from around the world uniting daily in the name of fun and creativity.

When we get together in the real world for a meetup, it is an equally wonderful thing. It’s so uplifting to behold such a diverse bunch of people, who might never encounter each other under ordinary circumstances, come together to share stories and celebrate each others accomplishments.

One Minute Briefs is a place for everyone. When you submit an idea you are a creative, pure and simple. You aren’t rewarded because of the colour of your skin or any other defining feature, rewards are earned based on what you do. Now wouldn’t it be refreshing if everything else in life could be the same.
— David Holcroft
We all, as a community, love great ideas and out-the-box thinking. We celebrate this, in one minute, every day. None of us, community or individual, can reach our full potential without unity with others. Whatever your skin colour, we are all OMBLES, we are all creative, and we are all humankind.
— Tom Wilding
OMB runs on diversity respect and inclusion. Which makes this community so powerful. All individuals value each-other regardless of skin, race, age or talent. It’s like - we are all individually together in a unique way
— Farhana Bheda
OMB has given me renewed confidence in my career, when things personally and professionally were difficult. The ability to collaborate/share and engage with ideas globally is above and beyond anything I have found myself able to do day-to-day.
We have coined the phrase ‘doing a Hally’ at OMB which basically means trying to involve as many members in the community as possible to achieve a greater final outcome towards a cause/brief. This open involvement is fundamentally what makes OMB so special
— Jack Hally
Don’t underestimate the ability of any Human Mind. Adversity, multi culture, adaptation, possibly bilingual experience, could have expanded the depth and breadth of someone’s thinking. We are minds.
— Faissal Otmani
Getting to know my fellow OMBLES blind has been truly eye-opening for me. I’ve got to know the way they think, before I know anything about their background or appearance. Turns out regardless of their native language, or how, or in which decade they grew up, we have way more common ground than I had ever imagined. It’s a lesson that I feel privileged to have learned, and a community that I feel very proud to be part of. OMB is great a great ice-breaker, what makes it so special is that it breaks down barriers too.
— Louise Chorley
OMB is one of the few creative platforms which allows you to express yourself no matter your level, background, skill or ability. It is inclusive and welcoming to everyone who can answer the brief.
— Paul Turner

“valorising” means “giving validity to”. the model minority myth valorises asians, upholding them as exemplars of what POC should be. it goes back to the first waves of immigration from asia to the USA but know that the myth is still inherently present today across the world. by upholding one ethnic group, you antagonise anyone who is not of that ethnic group. asians must reckon with the fact that we consciously and unconsciously perpetuate the myth because it benefits our social advancement to do so.
in order to truly support Black lives, know that all forms of othering are harmful.

let’s dismantle racism from the roots up.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create a wine label design for 6000 bottles of unlabelled Prosecco with #The6000Project

We’re excited to support this initiative as it allows our community of OMBLES to get involved in a great cause and have complete freedom to be creative.

You can even name it ANYTHING you want!!!

We can’t wait to see the results of this one!!!

Let your mind go free. Don’t think “wine world”. Think “your” world, and how you’d want to drink it. Don’t worry about the quality, what’s inside is already extraordinary. Design a label you’d be proud to open with friends and family. Something that will make celebrating the end of this year remarkable. Because to be honest, we will all need bubbles to kiss this year goodbye.

Remember to keep it positive though. Nothing political or Covid related please!

The6000Project.png

Tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs and @SfrisoWinetime with the hashtag #The6000Project

The labels are roughly square in format so please share your entries in this way.

We will take the 10 ten chosen entries over from OMB to our final voting on The 6000 Project.

The top ten entrants all win a case of Prosecco because we love to share and honestly, winning beats whining.

Final voting, also open to the general public, will happen on The 6000 Project website: www.the6000project.com between July 27 and August 6, 2020.

The top 3 will also receive cash prizes, with a potential €7000 overall up for grabs!!

The more people buy, the higher the reward for the winning designer and 2nd and 3rd runners-up. Full details here.

About:

Global woes left us, a family-owned micro-winery in Northeast Italy, with a canceled order of 6000 unlabelled bottles of our sparkling Prosecco. Our importer’s distribution fell through thanks to Covid-19, leaving us with a 1000-cases-of-wine problem to solve. That is 6000 bottles of Prosecco. No labels. No homes to call their own.

2020 has wreaked havoc on so many of us. But, as a small winery, we still have to figure out what to do with all this sparkling wine. We had three choices. Count it as a loss. Drink it. Lord knows we’ve tried! Or try something different.

So we are opening it up to you, the creatives of the world.

To design the front label. Get as many people to vote as possible. And get the word out so people pre-order cases of these 6000 bottles of Prosecco.

www.the6000project.com

What’s in the bottle?

A lot of happiness, refreshing bubbles, and very little chemicals. That's right, we only use biological products and don't use herbicides in our vineyards. What you get is pure joy straight from our vineyard.

We believe that sometimes a glass of wine can fix a bad mood. That it can ease difficult situations. It can help enhance the flavors of a great meal. It can be the best companion after a hard day - it doesn’t talk back! - and a great way to express happiness. But most importantly, it is the best fuel for great conversations that connect people.

All these things are in every bottle of our Prosecco.

The Wine: That Awesomeness That Will Make You Happy

The sparkling wine inside these 6000 bottles is a refined and elegant Long Charmat Method Prosecco DOC Extra Dry with 8 months of refermentation.

At Sfriso Winery, we use our own grapes to make our wines. As with almost everything we do, this Prosecco is also unconventional.

Quality Classification: Prosecco DOC Spumante Extra Dry

Grapes: 100% Glera grapes from a single vineyard owned by Sfriso Winery

Production Area: Chiarano, in the Province of Treviso, Italy

Alcohol Content: 11,5% vol.

Sugar Residue: 13 gr/l

Bottle Pressure: 5,5 bars

Bottle size: 0,75 l

Ideal Consumption Period: 2020/2022

Serving Temperature: 6/8 °C

Fun fact: according to the Prosecco DOC Consortium, the quality control body for Prosecco DOC, at least through the end of last year, they were not aware of any Prosecco producer in Italy who was also creating such long-term Charmat method Prosecco DOC.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to ask @RishiSunak & @HMRCgovuk to not forget about Limited Companies during the Covid-19 crisis with @ForgottenLTD #ForgottenLTD

Today's brief is for a very important cause on behalf of millions of people and I am one of them as the founder of One Minute Briefs LTD.

Since lockdown began, the government have pledged to be there for everyone to keep Britain going to get through the crisis. And, I was initially impressed by their fast actions in pledging support with the furlough scheme and grants for those that are self-employed.

However, they have forgotten something. They’ve forgotten us and millions of other small businesses and freelancers that are set up as limited companies. The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has decided not to support 2 million limited companies in the UK with millions of employees contributing billions to the economy. These businesses and the hardworking owner-directors who run them have fallen between the cracks of the government’s support during the Covid-19 pandemic. Without a review of the rescue measures, many of these businesses will have no option but to cease trading, with devastating effects on the individuals, families and employees they support.

I fully believed that the government would offer support on a par with what they have given to others who have had 80% of their income paid, whilst Limited Companies like my own have had to try and keep getting new business in, which is almost impossible right now. The only option being a loan that is repayable with interest and the furlough scheme is useless for single Director LTD companies.

How can owner-directors furlough themselves and expect to have a business to come back to at the end of all this?  You can’t just pause your business; you won’t be prepared for the upturn in the economy. Meanwhile the self-employed can keep working and claim a grant based on their net profits. That is simply unequal and unfair.

From a personal perspective, I’ve had events, talks, contracts, filmshoots & social campaigns all cancelled. Not only affecting me right now, but affecting me well into the future without knowing when restrictions will be lifted to get business going properly again.

I waited and waited to see if the government would offer any support before I felt compelled to write this post https://www.linkedin.com/posts/nickentwistle_freelance-freelancework-smallbusiness-activity-6673934216125792256-NQ4O and the response to it has shown me that there are many people affected by this too. I also then came across Forgotten LTD who have been calling for fairness and equality for small limited companies excluded by the UK Government’s Coronavirus financial support packages.

So, today we’re joining forces to ask the Chancellor to not forget about us and millions of others. And, we need the OMBLES to help make our voices heard!!!

Please tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs, @RishiSunak @HMRCgovuk and @ForgottenLTD with the hashtag #ForgottenLTD

You can also mention @commonstreasury @jimharrahmrc @borisjohnson in your tweets if you wish.

About Forgotten LTD.

The #ForgottenLtd Campaign exists to raise awareness of the lack of meaningful government support for the small business community across the UK. We call on the government to address this disparity by extending COVID-19 support packages to those of us left behind.

We are asking for parity. We are asking not to be forgotten.

Many sole or joint company directors do not qualify for any assistance from the government. No grants and no income support, their only option is loans and debt. They don’t get paid if they don’t bring business in. They don’t get paid if they are ill. They don’t get paid if they go on holiday. They don’t get paid on Bank Holidays. They don’t get perks like health insurance, car allowance or bonuses.

The Chancellor needs to be made aware that these people, who have paid their taxes, need financial help too. If they “fall between the cracks” as he has admitted, then that will mean that millions of small businesses could cease to trade.

  • Just a few businesses in the creative industry affected by this... Film: Directors, screenwriters, actors, cameraman, production staff, make-up artists, hairdressers, runners etc. Advertising: Creative Directors, art directors, copywriters, designers, web designers, account handlers, TV producers etc…

  • As well as in other industries such as… Construction, electricians, builders, decorators, architects, plumbers, surveyors etc

Please help us to spread the word and help the government get the message.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to encourage people to use less water outside during lockdown to avoid underpressured water supply at home & stop networks from being put #UnderPressure

We’re back collaborating with SES Water on another brilliant brief with the chance to win a great prize!

Our two previous collabs were incredible and we’re excited to see what the OMBLES come up with. No pressure!

Or should that be low pressure… as today’s brief is all about saving water in different ways to avoid water pressure running low for you and your neighbours!!

Brief:

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to encourage people to use less water outside during lockdown to avoid underpressured water supply at home & stop networks from being put #UnderPressure

Tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs and @SESWater with the hashtag #UnderPressure

Prize: £200 cash prize for today’s winner!!

SES Water Logo.jpg

About:

Picture the scene – after one of the wettest winters on record, you are now in lockdown so using the time at home to get on with some DIY projects like pressure washing the patio, and watering all the new plants that you have painstakingly planted now that garden centres are open. You’ve also been told to steer clear of beaches and beauty spots so instead you are filling up a paddling pool and letting the kids run wild with the hose to entertain them for a few precious minutes – thank goodness for the sunny weather…!

And now what’s this? Someone else is now telling you what to do? Your water supplier is saying you must use less water? But what about all that rain?!

Well, the good news is that all that rain is still available and resource levels are healthy - but there is a problem. Hot temperatures, dry weather (May was the driest on record) and more people at home in their gardens rather than going away means water use in our area is soaring to record levels (around an extra 50 million litres a day, the equivalent of supplying over 300,000 more people). Some people are using it at a faster rate than we can pump it from our treatment works to their taps because all pipes have a limited capacity. This can cause problems with low pressure for everyone - anyone who has been standing in the shower when someone fills a kettle or flushes a loo will understand the principle.

That’s why we need people to think about their water use as the more they use, the more chance there will be of pressure problems for them and their neighbours.

What can people do? Well, we know that the majority of the extra millions of litres are being used outside – hosepipes and sprinklers use a huge amount, around 1000 litres an hour, the same as a family of six would use in a day. So let your lawn go brown, it’ll soon bounce back when it rains – and this is England, it will rain soon! Water your plants using a watering can, either early in the morning or during the evening when it is cooler and there is less chance of water evaporating. If you have a car, give yourself a well-earned break and don’t wash it but if you really want to then use a bucket and sponge.

Every drop really does count – if we all save a little, then together we can save a lot! Even small changes in the way you use water can make a huge difference, whatever the weather.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create mastheads/posters for Sir John Hegarty's online wine magazine 'Club Chamans' #HegartyChamans

We’re delighted to be collaborating on today’s brief with, none other than, advertising legend Sir John Hegarty!! He has judged on one of our OMB briefs in the past and now is the chance for the OMBLES to impress him with their quick-fire creative thinking for a personal project of his.

Tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs with the hashtag #HegartyChamans

Prize: Case of Hegarty Charmans wine for today’s winner.

Screenshot 2020-05-28 at 11.15.55.png

BRIEF from Sir John Hegarty:

I’m starting an online wine magazine called Club Chamans. Chamans is the name of our vineyard.

If you go online you can see the old website hegartychamans.com This is being redesigned as we speak.

I’m looking for a masthead for the mag. Title: Club Chamans

I’m thinking of a subhead to the masthead.

‘Words from the vineyard including the meaning of life’. I’m still working on that. Open to suggestions!

Also, the logo on our bottles is a black sheep. But I’d love to move away from that for the mag. Unless you have a really creative way to persuade me otherwise.

You can share your ideas as designs, illustrations, scribbles, sketches, posters or whatever else comes to mind.

Think Rolling Stone, Esquire, Vogue, The Guardian masthead designed by David Hilman. Take a look at Fact magazine designed by Herb Lubalin in the 60’s. Iconic simple, evocative. This is a magazine/newsletter that will be going out 3/4 times a year to mostly creative people. It will be full of news from the vineyard, hints about wine and hopefully pieces that make you laugh and think. It’s not going to be full of wine bullshit but stuff that is really useful. It’s worth looking at Noble Riot. A great wine magazine that really is rock ‘n’ roll.

Good luck and look forward to seeing what all the OMBLES come up with!

The brief is also being run on our Daily Brief group over on Linkedin. https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12385704/ if you’d like to join us on there.

As a lot of you who have already joined will know, we’ve been running briefs there during lockdown in collaboration with the brilliant Daniel Poole, who has worked hard to get some great briefs from award-winning creative directors like the one we’re setting today.!! We will be setting the daily OMBs on there moving forwards too!

When King of Shaves were founded in 1993, around 90% clean shaven, shaving regularly; 10% had beards, were old.  Nowadays, anything goes - clean shaven, stubbled, beard… driven by societal, celebrity and economic changes/challenges.

The height of 'clean shaven' was 2003, but with the rise of social media and people working behind screens, appearance and clean shaven-ness became less important.

That’s when the hipster beard trend started with celebrities and Hollywood A-listers creating the beard trend.

So that’s where the OMBLES come in!

How can we help everyone to fix up, look sharp and #BringBackTheShave!?

About:

Created in 1993 in Will King’s kitchen, King of Shaves is a British company that is now firmly established as a leading challenger brand in the UK. Our range of advanced high performance shaving, skin and beard care products are available in the UK from Amazon, Boots, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug and Waitrose as well as direct from our online shop. King of Shaves is also available in the USA as well as in several other countries including Australia and New Zealand. Our products are not tested on animals and our entire shaving and skincare range is suitable for vegans.

After suffering for years from razor irritation when using conventional shaving foams and gels, Will experimented with blends of essential oils and eventually created his first product – King of Shaves Original Shaving Oil – that was to become the bedrock of the company. Will hand-filled the first 10,000 bottles over the kitchen sink (it took two weeks) and in 1993, got the product listed by Harrods and Boots the Chemist in the UK. King of Shaves was born!

“Back in 1992 I used to suffer from shaving rash and razor burn but couldn’t find a product on the market to solve my shaving problems. I suspected a lot of guys suffered in the same way I did, so I decided to solve the problem myself and develop a range of products to give a smooth, close and burn free shave – so in 1993 the King of Shaves was born. Like me, I want you to enjoy shaving rather than endure it and have pioneered our simple guide to getting a close, comfortable shave with no irritation. Join our kingdom today and find out how to shave better with King of Shaves.”

Mental Health Awareness Week

18th-24th May 2020

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week in 2020 is kindness. Something which is now more important than ever with the current situation. To mark the week, join us by taking part in the Kindness Challenge!

We’ve all had to make huge changes to our daily lives because of Covid-19. While everyone is following government recommendations around social distancing, we still have the ability to look out for each other.

Now more than ever, small acts of kindness can go a long way in helping everyone cope with our current reality. Research shows that kindness can reduce levels of stress and anxiety (Curry et al. 2018), increase happiness and self-esteem (Tashjiian, 2018) and that in only one week, counting one’s own acts of kindness can improve happiness (Otake, 2006).

Therefore, for Mental Health Awareness Week (18th – 24th May 2020) we want you to join us in our bingo-style Kindness Challenge! We’ve come up with small tasks that you can carry out by yourself from home to show kindness to others and yourself.

Here’s how you can take part:

  • Save the kindness bingo grid to your mobile or computer.

  • Highlight each task as you complete it (by editing the image on your social media app or on an editing tool like Paint)

  • Share it on social media alongside pictures of you completing the tasks to show others how they can spread kindness too!

  • Tag Mental Health UK using @mhealthuk on Instagram and Facebook or @mentalhealthuk on Twitter and LinkedIn.

  • Nominate your friends to take part in the Kindness Challenge by tagging them too!

  • Use #KindnessChallenge and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to promote that we're recruiting for a role at OMB with the first-ever #OMBJOB!!!

After hitting 25,000 followers on Twitter yesterday, we are running a special OMB today and I hope all of you will get involved and share with family, colleagues and friends.

omblogo.png

I have run One Minute Briefs now for a number of years on my own, which tends to come as a shock to a lot of people as they thing there is a team behind the scenes. It has been quite intense at times, especially when you are receiving over 300 submissions in a day, but it’s a good problem to have!!

We are now regularly trending on Twitter (including yesterday for #WashingUpLiquid), collaborating with worldwide organisations, working with global brands and making a difference in people’s lives as creatives get involved internationally.

And, with OMB continuing to grow as a thriving creative community, now is the time to take on a member of staff to ensure that the progression continues.

We want to be doing more brand & cause collaborations, more workshops, more talks, more books, more events on and offline and, above all, we want more OMBLES to improve their creative thinking, confidence, portfolios and gain contacts within the industry. Some of which, will become life-long friends.

So… that’s where the OMBLES come in.

How would you advertise the first ever job at One Minute Briefs to the OMBLES and beyond?

Maybe you’d like the job yourself? What would the job title be? Head OMBLE? Lead OMBassador? Maybe that’s part of your idea?

Tweet your ideas to @OneMinuteBriefs with the hashtag #OMBJOB

About:

10-year-old Maisie Catt recently completed a marathon in her Yorkshire garden. But what makes this physical challenge amazing, is that this young lady lost both her legs to meningitis and septicaemia when she was just a baby.

Inspired by the work of fellow Yorkshireman Captain Tom Moore, Maisie challenged herself to walk 2.6 miles per day, in her garden or on a treadmill, over the course of 10 days, in a bid to raise £260 for LimbPower.

Having initially set her sights on raising a modest £260, when our friends at Scriba PR heard about Maisie’s challenge, they sprang into action and got in touch with the UK media to help spread the word…and she’s had quite the response.

To date, Maisie has appeared in the local newspaper, been interviewed by The Yorkshire Post and appeared on ITV, BBC and Sky News. She’s also received mentions on Twitter from MPs, authors and even Captain Tom himself!

But the best part? She smashed her original fundraising target and has now raised over £10,000 – and counting. Buoyed by the response, she’s going to continue walking until the donations cease.

Knowing what a superb bunch of OMBLES we have, we’d like to use the power of our community to congratulate Maisie on everything she’s achieved so far and encourage her to keep up the fantastic work.. You can share fun quickfire ideas, posters, designs, illustrations, sketches, scribbles or whatever else that comes to mind.

Until this brief goes live, Maisie has absolutely no idea we have this planned for her.

If you want to read more about Maisie’s story, or donate, you can visit her JustGiving page here.

About:

NHS Urges the Public To Get Care When They Need It

NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens warned that delays in getting treatment due to coronavirus fears pose a long term risk to people’s health.

The plea comes alongside new findings that four in ten people are too concerned about being a burden on the NHS to seek help from their GP.

Seeking medical help is one of the four reasons that people can safely leave home, in line with government guidance.

And Sir Simon stressed that the NHS is still there for patients without coronavirus who need urgent and emergency services for stroke, heart attack, and other killer conditions.

While NHS staff have worked hard to put in place measures allowing people to access care safely – such as splitting services into Covid and non-Covid – attendances at Accident and Emergency departments are so far on course to be one million lower this April than last.

Some leading clinicians including the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and medical health charities such as the British Heart Foundation and Stroke Association have expressed concerns that people are risking their long-term health, and their lives, by delaying getting the help they need.

A new public information campaign – including today’s collaboration with One Minute Briefs is currently being rolled out to persuade people to contact their GP or the 111 service if they have urgent care needs – or 999 in emergencies - and to attend hospital if they are told they should.

As well as encouraging people to seek help for urgent health needs, over the coming weeks the NHS will take steps to encourage people to use other vital services - such as cancer screening and care, maternity appointments and mental health support – as they usually would, by demonstrating how frontline teams are delivering them safely.

NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said:

“While NHS staff have pulled out all the stops to deal with Coronavirus they have also worked hard to ensure that patients who don’t have Covid 19 can safely access essential services.

“So whether you or loved one have the symptoms or a heart attack or stroke, are a parent worried about their child or have concerns about conditions such as cancer you should seek help in the way you always would.

“Ignoring problems can have serious consequences - now or in the future.”

As part of the NHS’ rapid response to the greatest public health challenge in its history, hospitals have freed up more than 33,000 beds, the equivalent of 50 new hospitals, over the last few weeks.

An unprecedented deal with the independent sector has put their 8,000 beds and 20,000 staff at the NHS’ disposal, and seven Nightingale hospitals have been rapidly set up around the country, providing over 3,500 more beds to help local hospitals ensure all those who need care can get it.

This significant increase in capacity, combined with effective social distancing by the public slowing the spread of the virus, has meant that the NHS has so far successfully been able to meet everyone’s need, with capacity to spare.

Over the coming weeks the NHS will be working with top doctors and nurses, as well as patient groups, to highlight how local health teams have adapted to the global coronavirus pandemic, and to reassure the public that it is safe to access care – including scheduled appointments, vaccinations and maternity services.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to encourage sharing #CuppasTogether with @PGtips, even whilst we’re apart.

Today we’ve got an amazing brief with a powerful message at its heart. To coincide with PG tips’ brilliant TV ad below, we are on a mission to get people to reach out to someone for a cuppa. Be it across the road, on the phone, virtually via video, or right here on Twitter, staying connected feels more important than ever.

Even before social distancing, 9 million people in the UK felt lonely but over half of us felt there was a stigma attached to loneliness. With lots of us experiencing loneliness at the moment, we want to help change this.

That’s why we’re calling on the OMBLES to help spread the word to people all around the UK, that staying home doesn’t have to mean feeling isolated. We want to encourage people to share virtual #CuppasTogether to help address loneliness through the joy of a good old brew.

After all, cuppas really do taste better together.

Prizes:

  • £100 Amazon vouchers!!

  • One year’s supply of PG tips!!

  • PG tips personalised mugs for you and the family!!

About:

At PG tips, we know a thing or two about bringing people together through the magic of a cuppa and a chat. With lots of us experiencing loneliness right now, we’re on a mission to get more people to share a cuppa with someone – whether it’s a friend, relative, neighbour or someone new.

It’s time to share a cuppa and a good old natter!

We want the good a cup of tea and a chat can do to be amplified to as many people as possible, at a time it feels more important than ever. This is where the OMBLES come in.

The brief is straightforward: spread the word about #CuppasTogether with quick-thinking creative designs, notes, sketches, scribbles, GIFs or however else you see fit, that will encourage people to connect with one another for a good old chat and a cuppa, wherever they find themselves.

Through visuals and/or words, we’d like to de-stigmatise loneliness and highlight why we’re better together despite any current physical ‘distance’. After all, loneliness affects everyone and together we can all help reducing it.
