One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to encourage less online hate & more love, unity & acceptance on #STOPCYBERBULLYINGDAY with @CybersmileHQ

We're delighted to once again be official partners with Cybersmile on Stop Cyberbullying Day alongside the likes of Twitter, Instagram & Facebook. This year’s theme is all about unity and acceptance and we’re hopeful that all of the OMBLES will get involved and spread positivity across social media at a time it is more divisive and volatile than ever.

Today’s brief is a really important one for myself personally and on behalf of the One Minute Briefs community. Having been on the receiving end of online bullying in the past, we know that negativity and nastiness online can have a serious impact on our mental health. Whether it’s directly or indirectly aimed at you or at others, the negativity and hate online is creating an incredibly hostile place that is hard to enjoy these days. I am actively avoiding using Twitter myself and trying to stick to the positivity bubble that is One Minute Briefs. I’ve seen people hounded off Twitter because of their opinions and they’ve been bullied to the point where they feel the need to escape. I know this feeling. It’s an overwhelming feeling that is very real and can push you into serious depression. Although, they have since said that their mental health is much better as a result. But what if you rely on being on social media for your job or business like we do? How do you get away from it without the doom-scrolling? It’s almost impossible. Social media has never been so divisive. The feeds have become full of hate. People actively looking to cause harm to anyone who is different or has an opposing opinion to them. Covid times have exaggerated this divide too. That’s why it’s important for the OMBLES to show that social media can be a place for good. A place we can all help each other build confidence, careers, contacts and turn social media into a fun, creative place like it used to be.

We're calling on the OMBLES to do what they do best, and share their ideas to make a difference and get people talking about #STOPCYBERBULLYINGDAY in a positive way that promotes less online hate and more love, unity & acceptance.

Scribbles, notes, designs, sketches etc welcome. Let's get some positivity out there!

PRIZE:
The winning idea will receive a £100 cash prize.

World Refill Day

TODAY is World Refill Day – a global public awareness campaign to help people live with less waste.

Over the last 18 months, we’ve seen a huge increase in single-use plastic and our parks, beaches and public spaces are overflowing with waste. We’ve seen governments backtrack on their commitments and many businesses have banned reusables cups and containers altogether.

We know that single-use plastic is a MASSIVE problem and it’s not something we can recycle, or beach clean our way out of. We need to turn off the tap when it comes to single-use plastic. We need a refill and reuse revolution!

World Refill Day is designed to mobilise individuals to make small changes to their everyday shopping, opting for reuse over single-use. As a global movement, we have the power to create a wave of change and show businesses, brands and governments that we still want to see action on plastic and reuse is the solution

City to Sea will making life easier for those looking to live with less waste by mapping the places people can fill up using the FREE Refill app. The app now connects conscious consumers to almost 300,000 places you eat, drink and shop with less plastic.

Find out more: https://www.refill.org.uk/world-refill-day/

refill_droplet_blue.png

What are we asking people to do?

  1. This World Refill Day, choose to reuse and join millions of people around the world taking action to reduce plastic pollution.

  2. Say goodbye to single-use plastic and make small changes by switching to a reusable water bottle, trying a zero-waste shop or using a reusable coffee cup.

  3. Inspire change. Share a selfie of you and your reusable bottle, cup or container and tell the world you’re taking action on plastics by choosing to reuse this #WorldRefillDay.

  4. Download the free Refill app to find places to refill and reuse on the go.

  5. Use your voice! Let big businesses, brands and governments know that you want to see action to tackle single-use plastic.

Shockers:

  • Every year, we produce more than 300 million tonnes of plastic – up to half of which is single use.

  • Less than 10% has ever been recycled and the rest is sent to landfill, incineration or worse, is ending ended up in our natural environment and our oceans.

  • Plastic production is expected to double again over the next 20 years. and almost quadruple by 2050.

  • Globally, between 8 – 12 m tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean every year.

  • Packaging from take-away food and drinks is a huge cause of plastic pollution and items like coffee cups and take-away containers are consistently in the top 10 items found on beaches around the world9.

  • Globally we drink around 1.6 billion cups of takeaway coffee everyday and consume a mind blowing one million plastic bottles EVERY MINUTE.

  • NEW research reveals that just 10 plastic products make up 75% of all items and scientists say the pollution must be stopped at source.

  • These are items that can easily be replaced by reusable alternatives.

  • Despite this, reusable packaging represents less than 2% of packaging on the market

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create positive posters to raise awareness & break the stigma of loneliness during #LonelinessAwarenessWeek with @MarmaladeTrust

Today’s brief is a very important one for us all to get involved in. I’m sure every single one of us has been affected by this during the past year or so… so let’s help raise awareness with powerful and positive messages today in typical OMBLE-style!!

BRIEF:

It’s Loneliness Awareness Week and the theme of the week is acceptance.

We all get lonely sometimes, but we don’t all get loneliness.

We’re looking for creative ways to get people talking about loneliness to break the stigma around it and to build our understanding of it as a normal emotion.

By accepting loneliness as a normal emotion, we can help ourselves and others to manage the feeling.

Please avoid words such as: ‘Tackling’, ‘mental health’, ‘suffering’, ‘combatting’ & use words which encourage acceptance that it’s OK to feel lonely.  Let’s keep things positive.

Find out more at: https://www.marmaladetrust.org/law

Please tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs & @MarmaladeTrust with the hashtags #LonelinessAwarenessWeek

Prize:

  • £100 cash prize for today’s winner!

  • £50 cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd place pledged by Radioactive PR.

About the Marmalade Trust:

We offer a vital link between lonely people and the communities and resources that can help them. We have two bi-annual events: our Christmas Day Lunch and Loneliness Awareness Week, which is held in June. We are also currently supporting Marmalade members struggling with isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic with regular telephone support. We raise awareness of loneliness all year round to help people to reach out and make positive changes within their own lives and communities.

In a nutshell:

  • WHAT: We recognise and raise awareness of loneliness

  • HOW: We support and signpost people to new resources and communities

  • WHY: To empower people to make new friendships and connections

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters that promote the message that refugees are more than the labels that are put on them with @BritishRedCross #EveryRefugeeMatters

We’re delighted to be collaborating with the British Red Cross today to create posters supporting their Every Refugee Matters campaign. This is a great opportunity for the OMBLES to spread a very important message.

One Minute Brief of the Day:

Create posters that promote the message that refugees are more than the labels that are put on them.

Screenshot 2021-06-13 at 20.47.50.png

About the campaign

  • R̶e̶f̶u̶g̶e̶e̶s̶

  • A̶s̶y̶l̶u̶m̶-̶S̶e̶e̶k̶e̶r̶s̶

  • M̶i̶g̶r̶a̶n̶t̶s̶

They are more than just labels.

When terms like ‘refugee’ and ‘asylum seeker’ are stripped away from someone, we’re left with who they really are: a person. A person like you or me, with family, friends, dreams, stories, thoughts and feelings.

But too often, there is a negative perception of refugees. People who have experienced being a refugee shouldn’t be defined solely by these terms and labels, but by the people they are and what they bring to our communities.

This Refugee Week we want to show that refugees are far more than the labels that are assigned to them. We want people to see them as they are: like you or me.

Read this post to learn more about those labels.

The British Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation and is politically neutral and impartial, so content should not be political. The message needs to be impactful, relatable and empathetic.

Just make sure you tweet to @OneMinuteBriefs and @BritishRedCross. Please include the use of the campaign hashtag #EveryRefugeeMatters & #RefugeeWeek2021

Don’t forget to include your twitter handle in the corner of your submissions.

Prizes:

  • 1st: £300 cash!!

  • 2nd: £200 cash!!

  • 3rd: £100 cash!!

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters for bitcoin and/or cryptocurrencies, demonstrating how you can use them easily in real life to buy anything, from a pizza to a house with @wirexapp

On 22nd May 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz made history by making the first “real world” purchase with Bitcoin. He traded 10,000 Bitcoins (then worth approx $41) for two Supreme Papa John's pizzas. This would now be worth nearly $600 million (at the time of writing). Crypto fans around the world now affectionately refer to this date as, "Bitcoin Pizza Day".

So today we’re celebrating that day and we’re looking forward to seeing all of the fun instinctive interpretations of what you could buy with crypto-currency today!

And… for the first time ever… the OMB Top 3 prizes are going to be paid in Bitcoin!! So make sure you get involved!!

About the Brief:

Our Aim

To commemorate the first real world bitcoin transaction, we want to showcase the astronomical rise and adoption of Bitcoin. More importantly, what we’re really looking to show is that everybody can spend crypto in everyday life, just as easily as traditional currencies such as $ or £. With the rise of crypto-enabled payment cards like Wirex, you can buy anything - a car to a coffee - from anywhere that accepts Visa or Mastercard.

About Wirex

Wirex is a global digital payment platform. In 2015, we developed the world’s first contactless payment card that gives users the ability to seamlessly spend crypto and traditional currencies in real life. Wirex’s mission is to bridge the gap between the digital and traditional economy with an overall goal to usher in a cashless society and the mainstream adoption of the digital economy.

One Minute Brief of the Day: Create posters to help educate consumers on why they should switch to #ElectricVehicles with @ClearChannelUK

We’re excited to launch another exciting brief as part of our year-long partnership with Clear Channel. With a great prize to be won, we cannot wait to see all of the creativity on display today!!! You also have the potential opportunity to have your idea featured on billboards across the UK.

One Minute Brief of the Day:

Get your motors runnin’!

Create posters to help educate consumers on why they should switch to an electric vehicle.

Remember to tweet your entries to @OneMinuteBriefs and @ClearChannelUK with the hashtag #ElectricVehicles

Please include your Twitter handle in the corner of your poster so we know who you are and feel free to tag in any people/brands that are part of your entries.

Prizes:

- £200 cash prize for today’s winning idea

+ The chance to have your idea featured by Clear Channel on digital OOH billboards across the UK.

Context:

Ambitious government plans will see the end of petrol and diesel vehicle sales by 2030, however meeting this deadline will be challenging for the car industry.

We want to show how Out of Home can help car manufacturers position themselves as leaders in the electric race, showcasing their latest model while aligning with the wider environmental conversation.

COVID-19 has accelerated several changes throughout our cities, from increased pedestrianisation to new and safer cycle lanes. We are also seeing a switch in public attitudes to electric vehicles. Following the environmental improvements in cities as a result of the national lockdown, many people do not want to go back.

Challenge:

However, there is still a lack of education in the market and consumers often don’t have enough information to make the switch to electric. In fact, 43% of consumers stated they don’t know enough to consider the purchase, highlighting a need for greater consumer education.

A recent survey from Ford highlighted three main areas of concern:

  • 37% of consumers cited Range Anxiety as the main barrier to switching to electric

  • 53% say affordability is their main barrier to entry

  • 51% are concerned that the charging infrastructure is not robust enough

Ford’s Managing Director Andy Barrat believes that:

“While the move to electrification is gathering pace, there’s no mistaking that this is a huge task ahead of us that will require fundamental efforts to ensure consumers are taken on the journey, and the first step is understanding what their options are”.

Winning Criteria:

We’re looking for fun, impactful creatives that help allay the negative pre-conceptions around Electric Vehicle ownership, encouraging consumers to make the switch.

About Clear Channel:

At Clear Channel we create the future of media. We love nothing more than being a platform for brands and a platform for good. We’ve been showing posters on our sites for over 50 years now. So we’ve seen one or two good ones, and a fair few bad ones in our time. We love great poster design.

Did you know that the average person looks at a billboard for less than 7 seconds?

That’s why we’re joining forces, once again, with One Minute Briefs to set a brief that challenges the OMBLES to explore capturing peoples imagination in a very short space of time.

Find out more about Clear Channel at: https://www.clearchannel.co.uk

Feel free to use any of the assets available here if you’d like to mock-up any of your ideas on to one of our billboards. https://www.clearchannel.co.uk/resource-centre/mockup-templates

Who we are:

LOVEmyBEACH is an environmental campaign delivered by Keep Britain Tidy in the North West aimed at encouraging people to care for their beaches, oceans and wildlife. We run campaigns on everything from coastal pollution to sustainable lifestyles. We work with communities, volunteers, schools, local authorities and other partners to make our beaches clean and safe for everyone to enjoy and to help protect our oceans and wildlife.

What are we trying to do

Last year, as a result of the pandemic, we saw a huge influx of visitors coming to the beaches in the North West. Unfortunately, this also meant a huge influx of litter! This not only means the beach is left full of rubbish, but it can end up out at sea, harming wildlife and the environment.

LOVEmyBEACH wants to encourage people to come and make the most of the coast, but asks that visitors treat this beautiful natural resource with respect and care. We ask that people take their rubbish home with them or dispose of it in a bin. We are keen to ensure that people don’t leave their litter on the beach or next to already full bins as this is technically littering and it can still end up scattered across the beach.

Targeted at who?

Keep Britain Tidy research has shown that the age group most likely to leave litter on the beach is 18-24 year olds. We believe this demographic visits the beach with a view to staying for an extended period, eating and drinking. This results in lots of rubbish including drinks bottles, cans, food packaging, disposable BBQs and cigarette butts being left behind. We would like to engage this demographic in a way that raises awareness of the harm their litter can cause to the coastal environment, other visitors and wildlife. We want them to enjoy the coast and time with their friends, but also empower them with the positive message that that they can be a force for good and play a key role in protecting the beach and ocean environment they enjoy through the simple action of binning their rubbish or taking it home.

Let’s get this trending!

About the project:

Distillery have today announced the launch of its Diversity Type in time for World Diversity Day 2021. This unique initiative has created a brand-new downloadable typeface to celebrate diversity and inclusion while encouraging brands, agencies and communities around the world to engage in the important conversation around diversity.

'Diversity', is an innovative approach to an otherwise standard set of options for users to choose from when selecting a font. The typeface aims to address the lack of diversity within the creative industries and act as the official typeface of diversity. Historically, typeface fonts have been homogenous in their design, often leaving the characters with no differentiating features.  By using the Diversity Type, it allows users to select the characters that feel right for them, meaning that no two uses of the font will be the same; allowing people to have the opportunity to express their individuality and prioritise personal choice, while remaining part of something bigger.

To create the typeface, distillery called upon designers from every part of the world and sourced creators from underrepresented networks to help design each unique letter. 308 creatives across 54 countries were involved in the project. The final typeface product that is now available for use by businesses and individuals brings together 42 characters from the English alphabet that are inspired by individual stories and reflects a larger narrative to embrace our shared experience.

“distillery has embarked on this project to further the conversation and importance of diversity and inclusion within the creative industry. Diversity isn’t something to be solved; it’s an ongoing journey that will be forever changing, and the industry needs to recognise this. We hope that by creating awareness around this initiative, we will encourage others to think about how we can positively promote diversity and cultural intelligence, and act on improving their knowledge and understanding of diversity in all walks of life,”

Steve Wheen, founder, distillery.

“This is a shared responsibility. We have to repair these cultural nuances –  it’s a constant thing that we have to do – and I think communicating with everybody is the best way for us to make a proper impact”

Rich Miles, CEO of Diversity Standards Collective.

distillery are calling upon brands, businesses, and individuals to adopt the Diversity Type and use it in their official communications to further the conversation and celebration of authenticity.

Of course… we had to change our own OMB and BOC logos which you will find on our Twitter channels.

We can’t wait to see all the creative uses of the font today!!
